Transparent fans: Noisy?

Postby LongRunner » June 25th, 2013, 8:07 pm

As if the whole "bling bling" fad wasn't silly enough already, transparent cooling fans are often built out of highly resonant polystyrene plastic (for reference, opaque fans are usually made from polybutylene terephthalate). This has been observed by some (also including myself) to result in obtrusive and irregular high-pitched tones. I want to know whether you have had the same experience.

See also what I have to say about big PSU fans and the compromises they have to make to squeeze them into the old ATX PSU form factor.

Information is far more fragile than the HDDs it's stored on. Being an afterthought is no excuse for a bad product.

I have three Enermax Vegas 120mm fans in my main PC. They are very quiet. I also have a Yate Loon 120mm fan removed from a PSU. I can't tell the difference between it and my other normal 120mm fans.
