WD = Worst Drives (Although I'm using a 320GB WD in my main PC). I prefer seagate, though.

A bit off topic, but all my 24/7 computers in the closet are currently using Seagate drives. 5 drives in 4 computers...
We'll see how long they last, compared to the 3 WD drives I have in use in my not-24/7-computers (Lenovo laptop, bedside PC, main Dell desktop)

And yes I finally put the compaq in the closet and am using a Dell as my main PC now.
Of course it's a tiny little Optiplex 745 full of KZG caps. But it still works so I'm not going to re-cap it yet...

I get door to door sellers here selling hdds. Since the hdd prices has gone up I bought 4 at the door 2 500gb hdds and 2 160gb hdds for under 30usd lol. Going to sell them again and make a huge profit lol

If you don't mind me asking, but where did you get those somewhat awesome prices?

Or are they just some cheap crap? :lol2:

The biggest one I have that's actually survived a half-decent runtime to date is an ST31000528AS (firmware CC38), but it's only lightly used. It's disappointingly loud when seeking and I put little other than audio/video files on it (mostly DVD rips). The rest goes on two (one for system/programs and one for user data) of what are probably some of the finest desktop drives ever - WD800JD-00LSA0s (80GB/platter, 2 heads, FDB). Not that those couldn't be even better (they lacked load/unload ramps and I could also have had WD800JD-00LUA0s with damped top covers) but I haven't found any serious downside to them, which is more than I can say for pretty much any other drive in existence.

Since 2014, the biggest drives I have are now the WD3003FZEX-00Z4SA0 (3TB Caviar Black; 4TB and 2TB versions are/were also provided).
I actually quite like them (despite their rather loud seeking), as they're much heavier than most ‘new’ drives and seem more reliable too.
