IBM Polymod project

This motherboard came from an SFF IBM Thinkcentre. Unfortunately, the CPU has a prescott core, and so it gets hot and there is a vented cap next to the chipset heatsink. I'm gonna replace some of them with solid polymer caps.

I've seen that. Ruby and Nichi HM/N?

Yup. The vented cap is a nichicon HM. The date code tells me it was made in 2004, so it was before they fixed the problem some time during '05

They HMs will get Ruby MBZ as their replacment, the row next to the CPU socket will get Chemi-con PSA and the rest will get Sanyo OSCON SEP and SEPC

But those ones aren't bloated?

They're not bloated, but I'm replacing them anyway. They've been baked all their life and I think that polys will handle it better

Sometimes, but not usually. I'm a big fan of preventative maintenance
