Benefits of Gigabit?

Right now all my networking equipment is 10/100Mbps based, with the exception of the 8-port Gigabit (1000MBps) switch that is the backbone of my network. If i upgrade everything else to Gigabit, will it make LAN gaming speeds better? Internet speeds better? Data transfer over the network faster?
I'm considering moving to gigabit, that's why im wondering.

Data transfer and LAN gaming may be faster with gigabit, but it won't make a difference to your internet speed. You will get your usual 4-5mbps no matter what the speed of your ethernet is.

Between your computer and the server you're downloading from, the slowest link should end up limiting the speed of your download. Unless your internet is faster than 100Mbps (in which case I would hate you), it shouldn't make a difference.
