I downloaded a malicious file that I knew contained malware.
I scanned it with Micosoft SEcuity Essentials and with MalwareBytes Anti-Malware Free.

The result: MSE didn't even detect it.

Yep. It's saved me many times. Esepcially since I somehow acquired Windows 7 Ultimate, Office 2010, Windows Server 2008, and more, for free. Perfectly legal methods, just that there happened to be a virus or two in there.

Ah, the XP repair scareware virus. I've seen that one LOTS of times. So far, malwarebytes is the only thing that has been able to fix it

My files are still not showing (after I hooked the drive up via USB to my main PC and ran MBAM on it... My new Anti-Virus testing procedure is a little more of an actual test of the protection abilities. Norton 360 5.0 passed with flying colors, and Eset NOD32 is the most useless piece of crap I've ever seen.
I prefer "Security Shield" (rogue AV) over NOD32, because at least it says it found something. LOL.

well, MBAM doesn't fix the hidden files problem either. you have to turn on show hidden files and unhide them.

Well I'm gonna run another MBAM scan overnight. I'll poke around in the Folder Options tomorrow.
