I remember that one - it's the Cooler Power GX850.

Macron makes awesome PSU's. After a recap they are great. I really hope there is one in the cheap PSU roundup which I am excited for :)

I think I'll give the Macron its own review. The CoolerPower GX850 probably falls into that category. It did 500W OK, and it was only the 12V rectifier which failed when I loaded it to 550. I have actually repaired and recapped it. I replaced the original 30A STPS30H100CT TO-220 parts with STPS40H100CWs (Sorry, Longrunner), which are TO-247 parts rated for 40A.

Have you attempted to fix the overheating problem???

Not yet, but it would just be a matter of disabling that grille-hogging PFC.

Darn it! Looks like I'm going to have to have a word with the fleabay seller and find a more reliable source. The MPT-4012 arrived with bad caps.

I knew it was going to happen...by the way, what's the brand and series of that cap??? I'm just curious...

The fan is still in good condition, right??? And surely it's worth recapping...

But it's disappointing to get something to review and not be able to. :(

The bad caps were all GoldLink. I can't remember the series. The fan is a Ball Bearing Power Logic, and it seems to spin freely, and yes, I will be recapping it.

It's likely the series wasn't labelled in the first place. I've seen that myself, and my guess is the culprits are general-purpose.

Thhe fan is a Ball Bearing Power Logic...

Actually I think you'll find it has one ball bearing and a sleeve bearing, if you try to slide the impeller along its axis. That doesn't mean they're failure-prone fans, though. AVC is the only manufacturer I know of who clearly labels their 1B+S bearing fans as such.

I won't send any of mine off without first using an ESR meter (which I don't have yet) on the caps. That's because I have an MPT-301 that looked OK at first, but as soon as I plugged it in, the cap before the +5VSB ferrite coil blew.

By the way, the supervisor in the MPT-4012 is the WT7525-140. The old one had the 494/339 combo IIRC.

OK. Fair enough.

It is now. I've upped the attachment limit to 10/post too.
