There's no excuse, is there???
Information is far more fragile than the HDDs it's stored on. Being an afterthought is no excuse for a bad product.

Not that I can think of. It's probably cheaper to punch a grille out than to use a wire grille, but it's not cheaper to punch out a very restrictive grill than it is to punch out a more open grille.
