I set up a web server at my house

Postby shovenose » June 13th, 2011, 3:37 pm

-Command line (no graphicall user interface) Ubuntu server edition...
-DynDNS automatic dynamic IP updater so that the web address points to the right place if my IP gets changed since I do not have Static IP web service...

AND IT WORKED!!! after a little bit of wrestling with a command line OS I got it working!

Cool! Congrats on it. Command line OS's totally beyond me and I'll never get my hands on them. :lol2:

it is very easy and fun u hsould try it!

Only issue is that my ISP does not allow any kind of servers. I wonder how long it will take for them to figure it out and kill my service :(

:rapidfire: ISP. They don't allow any kind of servers because they want you to buy expensive services from them.

I think you should kill the server before they kill your internet. You aren't gonna last long without it.
No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the coils backwards! :D

The connection has timed out
The server at shovenose.dyndns.org is taking too long to respond.

Unlucky.

I shut off the server because my internt was slow and flaky this morning. It looks like they caught on already.

Now that I've stopped running the server for about a day, the internet is up fine again.

To be honest, there isn't really a huge benefit of running your own server, it's a lot harder than signing up and paying a couple of dollars a month for servers that are already setup.

To run a server, in my opinion, you need to have a datacenter.

Oh well now my interner is down entirely.
I am going to prgress from one small server to 10...(when we move then i will get internet suitable for servers)...then eventually i will set up more servers....
And eventually i will have a datacenter
