Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition: epic RPG on steroids

Final thoughts

Well, to be honest my opinion may be slightly biased here. Although I have played the Baldur’s Gate just twice so far and from that the Enhanced Edition just once, I can clearly say back in 1998 it was most likely the best game up do date. And still in 2015, also thanks to those Beamdog enhancements, it is yet one of the best games ever made. I just somewhat have strong feelings whether to call it the best RPG of all times because of strong competition from Fallout (another Interplay game by the way). Just imagine if Beamdog would also acquire Fallout 1 and 2 rights…well, back to reality, Fallout is now just like another Transformers. Good if you do not have any other expectations than some techie warfare show, but you just can not expect anything else from that.

And unlike the first Fallout, the first Baldur’s Gate is not even shorter than the second. The game area is already huge, the gameplay is equally long. In somewhat different manner (more wild nature exploration), but still entertaining. The game is just unique, I would not say I adore it, it would be somewhat too strong expression, but my feelings towards BG are very close to it. And the BGEE made it just better.

Now someone may try to ask “hey, if it is now even better, than it could not be the best before!”. I got reply to that! As the great Albert realized some time ago, everything is relative! So could the best be made even better? I think Beamdog did it. So now I only have to please all the people who could not live without numbers. OK than. If it was not for the remaining glitches and poor game animations, I would give full score. Now it is “just” 96 %.

And remember: The Bhaalspawn will return!
