Preview: Silverstone Strider Gold S 550 W (SST-ST55F-GS) – High Power golden platform

Today we will take a first look at the latest Silverstone golden unit, the Strider Gold S (SST-ST55F-GS). To make things complicated, the unit is labeled SST-ST55F-G (sometimes with V2.0), but it is clearly the new model made by High Power (aka Sirfa aka Sirtec), unlike the -G made by Enhance Electronics. This is a 550W 80 PLUS Gold (@115 V) certified unit, however, you cannot find this on Ecova’s website as there is only the old -G and then 750W/850W -GS  units. Another source claimes it is 80 PLUS Gold pending. The reason may be that the SST-ST55F-G already had the certification and this way, it may be re-used. Not confused enough yet? Well, Silverstone seems to have some problems with labeling…

This machine is not user serviceable and dangerous high voltage inside this case. Something missing? Oh, well…there’s more! We have 100% moudlar cable design baby! Really, moudlar, that’s what the box says. I think Silverstone should proofread their texts just a little bit more. Eh, let’s stick to numbers. The unit claims to provide 45.9 A or 550.8 W (not 550 W) on a single +12 V rail which also feeds the DC-DC modules for +3.3/+5 V rails. Each provides up to 20 A or 105 W combined. The stand-by supply provides up to 3 A.

The Strider Gold S 550 W comes with a 3-year warranty, however, it does not seem to be sold anywhere yet. The older SST-ST55F-G (which may actually be this SST-ST55F-G v2.0! look for +12 V current, it must be 45.9 A, not 45 A) costs approx. 2700 CZK in Czech republic or 130 dollars in Australia so I expect similar pricing.
