Preview: Be Quiet! Straight Power 10 700 W CM (E10-CM-700W)

We’ve already covered the newest and most high-end unit from Be Quiet!, the Dark Power Pro P11 550 W. Now we’re going to take a look at the Straight Power 10 series, which is a tier lower. Namely, the Straight Power 10 700 W CM (E10-CM-700W) model. This is a version with only semi-modular cabling (the Main ATX connector is fixed). It comes with 80 PLUS Gold certification (@115 V). Be Quiet! has, as always, greatly focused on producing silent units and this one is no exception, with a 135mm fan and a couple of other enhancements.

This platform is manufactured by FSP Group and while at first glance it appears to be an ordinary Aurum. But as we will dig deeper we’ll show that fortunately this isn’t the case. The rumor is that this model has true DC-DC modules for better regulation. So because of that we can expect that the voltage regulation will finally compete with other high-end units performance-wise. Unlike with the group design stock Aurum. Coupled with the fact that this unit sells for over 2800 CZK (120 Eur in Germany, 169 AUD in Australia, 170 USD in the US), we can clearly see that it’s geared towards the high-end segment and should hopefully perform as such. We will definitely check that out.

As you can see and as is the case with other Be Quiet! units, the Straight Power 10 700 W CM has four +12V rails, and combined together they’re capable of delivering 56 A (or 672 W). The +3.3 and +5 V rails are slightly beefier with 25 A each (150 W combined), which in my opinion is completely unneccessary for modern systems and even 15 A would have been more than enough. But as long as there are DC-DC modules, it would make no difference even if they would have specified them for 100 A. The -12 V rail provides 0.5 A which is slightly above average, and the stand-by rail is specified at up to 3 A. I don’t know about you, but I am already looking forward to finding out if Be Quiet! is finally getting rid of the stock legacy Aurum…
