Isolation transformer

We use big, 2kVA isolation transformer (1:1) for galvanic separation from the mains. For safety purposes and proper ground reference, the measured unit is properly grounded through the transformers core.

Anechoic chamber

To proper measure the noise, we use custom-built anechoic chamber. Almost two square metres of accoustic wavelet have been used for the internals, as well as over five square metres of PUR foam (for both the internals and the externals). The bottom as well as the ceiling use three layers of the foam.

As the load tester itself creates some incredible noise, plus the room where I measure is also noisy itself, the noise measurement is done separately. As we know the fan speed, we can than feed the fan of each unit externally and set up the proper speed. This way we can measure in completelly different, silent environment.

The meter we currently have is better for comparison than some actuall measurements, but thanks to the silent room and anechoic chamber, we can also provide much better human recognition of when any particular device starts being audible. than before.
