Be Quiet! Straight Power 10 700 W CM (E10-CM-700W) review

Connectors & cabling

All the modular cables provided with the E10-CM-700W are black with black sleeving. All the wires for the Main ATX connector as well as for the peripheral connectors are 18AWG. The wires that conduct only small currents (feedback for +3.3, +5 and +12 V, -12 V, Power Good and Power On) are only 24AWG. The ATX 12V connector has 16AWG wires and also four out of the 8 wires for the PCIe connectors are 16AWG. That could be considered OK, but what is not so good is that none of the connectors are gold-plated. Even the SATA, if they have any gold on them at all, it is perhaps the most miniscule amount I have ever seen to date. Hopefully that’s enough to keep the contacts from oxidizing under high temperatures.

In total, we have:

Fixed cabling

  • 1× Main ATX (20+4pin): 61 cm

Modular cabling

  • 1× ATX 12 V (4+4pin): 70 cm
  • 4× PCIe (6+2pin): 60 cm
  • 11× SATA: 4× 55 cm, 4× 72 cm, 2× 87 cm, 1× 103 cm
  • 4× peripheral molex: 2× 85 cm, 2× 100 cm
  • 1× Berg for FDD: 105 cm (uff)

We can see that the modular cable board uses 12pin Molex Mini-Fit Jr. 5566-12 connectors for the PCIe cables (two PCIe connectors from) each. The ATX 12 V uses 5566-10, and the peripherals have a single-row 5566-05/5557-05 pair but with with side locks. As usual I’ll criticize once again the perforations here on the backside. Those mean hot air is going to be pushed back into the case with this unit.

Casing & cooling

The metal chassis of the E10-CM-700W is made out of 0.9mm SECC steel, and it has a matte black finish (which is most likely a powder coating). The fan grill is an ordinary wired one, which is good as it impedes less during the intake, and causes less turbulence, and is generally more quiet. The wire grill is housed in a plastic part which is than put on top of the metal casing. There’s also a rubber gasket so-to-speak which sits between the the two parts of the chassis which serves to help dampen the vibration from the fan.

Also notice the wider, non-circular shape of the intake opening. It than transforms to fully circular on the outtake side of the fan. The Main ATX cable coming out of the unit is protected with a plastic bushing. The back exhaust uses the typical perforated hexagonal pattern. These perforations also extend to the position underneath the input receptacle/AC switch, which is nice.

The fan is Be Quiet!’s own Silent Wings, model BQ SIW3-13525-HF, which is a 135mm fan with an FDB bearing. The maximum speed is 1800 RPM, and the maximum airflow is 84.6 CFM with a static pressure which equals to that of 3.24 mm of water column. The noise specification hasn’t been provided to me, but the MTBF is 100000 hours at 40 °C.
