CeBIT 2016 Hannover: power supplies, enclosures and more

Modecom

There are not only crap-selling brands in Poland, but also ones selling some decent products. One of them is the Modecom which I knew for a long time thanks to their very old power supplies, but then I lost track about them. In the meantime, they grew up into one of those great rebranders of everything possible, though they try to keep some quality standard. At CeBIT 2016 they presented their latest PSUs, 80 PLUS Gold, Silver and Bronze certified.

Most of them seem to be made by Chinese SAMA, which can make some decent units for very competitive prices, yet using up-to-date synchronous platforms. So I will definitely try to get some samples of those. They also showed their latest Volcano V1 big tower, which for my taste is too futuristic while only made out of 0.8mm steel, but I guess it will be more price-oriented. Comes with all the modern stuff as you can see, including SATA backplane.

They even showed some of the peripherals, including the MC800M mouse/keyboard combo.

Silverstone

I have been most interested in the recently launched Strider Titanium family, which comes in only 600-800 W, which is intriguing itself (high efficiency at such small power output). But Silverstone took yet another one to CeBIT 2016, the 1.5kW SST-ST1500-TI. Of course fully modular unit wth 135mm fan.

I also checked the new SFX and SFX-L prototypes. Silverstone is already pushing the limit further with 700W SFX-L, fully modular, 80 PLUS Platinum certified unit from Sirtec.

Also new versions of the ordinary SFX units were shown, both most likely from Enhance Electronics. Silverstone will try to make them in 500W and 650W capacity, fully modular as well. They also squeezed 92mm fan inside instead of 80mm one so the units should now be even quieter than before.

Silverstone also went ahead for miniaturization in another area, this time for water cooling systems. While everybody is making constantly new refreshes which are actually the same, Silverstone managed to integrate tiny pump directly into the radiator body. The water block itself does not seem so bulky and it is lighter as a result. Much better for extreme overclocking of CPUs with removed IHS. The name of the new Tundra series set is TD02-PRO.

Just recently, the company started making high-end cables as well. Besides SAS cables where there is not really much to see, they introduced some advanced USB cables not long ago, the CPU0x family. The CPU01 has reversible USB A to Micro-B connectors, the CPU02 uses A/Micro-B combo to reversible Micro B and the last one is reversible A to Apple Lightning. No more “plug-in three times”! They also come with nylon sleeving which should handle some rough handling.

But back to more traditional hardware. Some new enclosures were also shown, starting with new Mini-ITX Raven Z RVZ01-E. It can use ordinary full-sized ATX power supply, Mini-ITX board and full-length graphics card.

It is followed by the Primera PM1, midi-tower with the new mainstream for hiding hard drives into bottom compartment. Next to that it has two 2.5” positions under the motherboard plate and also a fan splitter.
