Conclusion and evaluation

The Linkworld LPW1685-70 managed to provide its rated power, but failed to deliver the power within the ATX specification. So in accordance with my evaluation methodology, it does not deserve its evaluation. This time around, I have to admit the difference between most of the previous Linkworld units and this one is like night and day. Yes, the reason is mostly because this is just made by (or based upon platform from) Andyson. So it does not have much in common with Linkworld other than the name on it.

But the difference is astonishing. The soldering quality is very good. There is nothing really dangerous about the unit. It delivered rated power, and even more. That is totally unseen for the Linkworld units I have encountered before. It managed to deliver the power with voltage regulation in spec and that even under crossload (barely though). The ripple was quite high but with a bit of luck it manages too.

Basically the main concern – from the requirements I am able to measure at this moment – is the hold-up time. Japanese input capacitor has been chosen. But in this instance, being restricted by such budget, I would rather see higher-capacity one, even though Taiwanese. On the other hand I do not even think about how bad the hold-up time of all the other previously failed units would be, if they were able to deliver the rated power in the first place.

Of course, for the price you cannot expect much more. Although the efficiency is also very nice for the price, the unit runs hot and very, very loud under full load. Under extreme conditions (where all other units so far survived) it is not able to cool itself down which only shows how many corners have been cut. If it was me I would not really recommend this unit even for just an office build. But if you really, really, really need a unit capable of delivering 500-600 watts continuous just fine and 700 W peak, do not care about the noise and you are really low on money, then yeah, the Linkworld LPW1685-70 may be an option for you.
